The upcoming 2024 election will likely go down in history as one of the most notable elections of recent times. Tensions have been high for months leading up to the 5th and it is unlikely the election will truly be over after all the votes are counted.
Virginia native Ella Posey is a sophomore at Montana State University. As a first-time voter, she is passionate about her political choices and was very excited to share her opinion with me.
When asked why she chose to vote, Posey said, “One of the reasons that I plan to vote is that this election is pretty historical… and it’s a really important time for me to use my civic responsibility and put the person that I feel would be the best representation of our country in office.” The power one vote can hold is more important than people realize, and Posey is a strong believer in getting out to vote.
Everyone has their own reason for choosing their candidate. Among the many possibilities, one stood out to Posey in her decisions about who to vote for this year.
Posey had this to say about her most important factor, “An acceptance of a woman’s reproductive rights, and ensuring that those are not restricted or… held back in any way.” She added on to this by saying, “Someone that is pro like, considering our environment.” and “Pro science.”
News sources are incredibly important in this day and age. With false and biased news being very popular. It is important to use consistently strong news sources for information.
When asked about where she gets her news, Posey replied, “I primarily get my news from the New York Times.” She also was considerate about social media, she acknowledged this when she said, “I know that a lot of is probably just scrolling through my TikTok feed… I feel like that’s just a really general way that news travels these days.”
Posey Posey, being young and active in the political landscape is a great example of the direction our country is headed in. The next generation of young people is generally a group that wants to learn, explore, and criticize according to their beliefs. With all the talk about the negative path our world is headed in, speaking to powerful young people like Posey makes it not seem so bad after all.
