Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, the majority of the sports at Judge Memorial will be moving up to 4a, playing in a brand new region with schools in and around the Salt Lake valley.
Judge boys basketball is one of those teams, and had a very solid year in 3a taking third place at state and having an overall record of 17-12, as well as becoming state champions in the previous 2023-2024 season for the first time in 15 years. It is no surprise that the basketball team was completely on board with the change, as over the past two years they have played one of the hardest schedules in the state, not ducking any competition. The team played three schools this year that will be playing in region next year beating Juan Diego, Park City, and Jordan respectively, looking to be a good sign for things to come.
Judge certainly will have some holes to fill in the lineup next year after losing 4 starters from last year’s team. Junior shooting guard, AJ Peek will be a player with hopes of making a big impact next year, and had some thoughts about the team and it’s future during our interview.
Peek talked about how the team did against schools bigger than Judge saying, “I thought we did really well against 4a teams, and especially against teams bigger than us.”
Peek referenced games against teams like Wasatch Academy–a top 15 team in the nation– who Judge was within 10 points of the whole game, before an injury to star point guard, JJ Apathjang in the late third quarter.
“I think we’re gonna look good, man. I feel like we’ve got a solid team and definitely have a shot at the chip.”
Peek is one of many people who believe that Judge basketball is poised for a big year next year in 4a, and have a chance at reclaiming their title as champs.
