The preliminary UHSAA proposal had Judge moving from 3A region 14 to region 13 with Carbon (120 miles), Emery (142), Manti (125), North Sanpete (102), and Union (153). With this change and all the schools being over 90 minutes away, the school’s administration was concerned about students missing too many classes. Along with distance, transportation costs such as fuel and driver times would be βin the six figures,β according to Mr. Cyrus.
The administration’s solution to the problem was to move to Region 4A, even though most of the schools in 4A are over three times the size of Judge. The average enrollment of the other 4A region 10 schools for grades 11-12: East (1080), Cottonwood (1022), Highland (1007), Murray (950), Jordan (945), Park City (821), and Juan Diego (343).
“There’s an advantage to being in a region with school’s in the Salt Lake Valley playing ones that we have historical rivalries with,β Cyrus said.
