Ms. Jones is a new college counselor here at Judge. She is originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, but has also lived in North Carolina and New Hampshire. In high school, she loved her English classes and the arts. She went to Appalachian State in North Carolina to study recreation management and is almost finished with her masters in school counseling at Rocky Mountain University in Provo.
Last year, she worked for the University of Utah in health sciences but was on a leave of absence for maternity leave. She said during an interview: “I am a counselor because my counselors did the most for me when I was in high school, and I really needed them. [And] it’s an opportunity for me to help students, which is the population of people that I absolutely love, and so, it’s my way of being involved in their stories.”
She has chosen to be a college counselor because in her opinion, college is the most exciting part of the high school experience because you are thinking about your next steps. She wants to make sure that every student feels at ease in the college search process, and that they explore all of their options.
She chose to come to Judge because working at the U only allowed her to present one option, which was coming to the U. Working in college counseling at Judge is allowing her to really get to know her students and make a positive influence in their lives.
Outside of school, Ms. Jones enjoys spending time with her family and indoor cycling. She has a one-year-old daughter, and she says: “I’m really exploring life through her eyes.” She wants students to know that her office is a safe space. She chose Judge because it reminded her of her high school that she spent her senior year at. This year, she is most excited to be involved with a new group of seniors and to help them find their next school.
