Maggie Prince has been on the tennis team for two years, and is thoroughly enjoying it. According to Maggie, the captains, Taeyada Vacharothone, Abbey Trewitt, and Audrey Selfridge, along with the coaches Tracey Valentine, Kristy, and Tony, work together to create an extremely fun and welcoming environment on the team.
Everybody on the team works together to make it as motivating and friendly as possible. This has enabled the girls to win regions and qualify for state which will be held at Liberty Park Thursday and Friday, Oct. 6-7.
The players are extremely excited for this upcoming tournament and are doing their best to prepare for it as well as motivate and prepare their teammates. With Maggie being a senior, she will not be on the team next year. However, she feels she has left a positive and lasting impact on the team by “bringing her teammates together, and strengthening relationships.” She has inspired the younger players to maintain good sportsmanship and enforce a friendly and welcoming environment where everybody works together not just for their individual interests, but for the whole team’s interests.
The team has made and is continuing to make a great run this year. Avery Kaleel is the six seed in state in first singles. Audrey Selfridge is the four seed in second singles. Grace Willmarth is the 6 seed in third singles. Taeyada Vacharothone/Olivia Lee are the 5 seed in first doubles. Emma Evensen/Sophia Valles are the 2 seed in second doubles.
The Judge Memorial Girls Tennis team is in the midst of a great season. Under the leadership of senior captains Taeyada Vacharothone, Abbey Trewitt, and Audrey Slefridge alongside the coaching of Tracey Valentine, Christie Brightwell, and Tony Lew, the team is undefeated through 6 matches in 3A Region play. The team’s impressive record has earned them the 1 seed in 3A, setting the team up well for the upcoming regional tournament.
Beyond the raw talent that the team boasts – seven players from the team are seeded top 10 in the state for their respective specialties – a friendly and welcoming culture that values its players has led to the immense success the team has experienced so far. Senior Magge Prince commented on this culture saying that, “By bringing teammates together and strengthening relationships, the seniors have passed down a winning environment where everybody works together not just for their individual interests, but for the interests of the team.”
With the regional tournament less than a week away, the team looks to capitalize on the momentum they have built and to prove why they’re the undefeated one seed.
