As the girls volleyball season is near an end, I decided to talk with Belinda Hernandez Padilla, a junior who’s been playing volleyball for Judge since her freshman year to be able to get an inside look of what the Judge girls volleyball team has accomplished and how the season has been going in her eyes.
When asking Belinda about her favorite moment of the season she was filled with excitement to tell me about it. “The JV team’s win over Juan Diego, a school that is a rival of ours, was my favorite moment of the season since it felt like a major accomplishment,” she explained. But in terms of the varsity team she said “For our varsity team, I would say that my favorite memory was simply our last game against Providence Hall. We won in 3 sets and had been on a tiny losing run, so being able to break that trend felt great.” Being on a losing streak of any kind for any kind sure can do alot to a team’s confidence and it will show. Getting a win after a few losses can really bring up team spirits which is why the win over Providence Hall was such a special moment.
When it comes to sports, being good at the sport isn’t always everything, for example if you have some of the best soccer players in the world on the same team none of these skills will matter if they don’t get along and have no good chemistry. When Belinda was asked about how well the team gets along she explained that “One thing I will say about our volleyball program is that everyone is just so kind. I feel like we have some amazing seniors who make the environment super-inclusive.” I later asked her how important this is and she said “It is so important that our players get along so we can work as a whole and keep it a positive environment.”
