The Boys Lacrosse team recently capped off a successful 15-6 season with their second consecutive state championship. Following this stellar performance, the Bulldog Press decided to recap one of this season’s biggest rivalry wins: the Bulldogs’ home game against Waterford on April 30th.
This game encapsulated what it means to be a hard-nosed, gritty team for both schools involved. Early in the game, a Waterford midfielder went down with a fractured femur and had to be carried off the field in a stretcher. Despite this out-of-the-blue injury, the Waterford squad persevered and continued to play with hussle and polish on both sides of the ball.
On the other end of the field, your Judge Bulldogs put together a masterpiece of a first half. The offense was rolling early on, gelling together and moving the ball better than any other game up to that point. They jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter, adding two more in the second quarter to go into halftime with an 8-1 lead. The Judge defense also locked down Waterford’s high-powered offense thanks to tenacious 1v1 defense, great ground ball play to win extra possessions, and a stellar half from Junior goalie Connor Knight.
The Waterford Ravens also deserve plenty of credit for the grit they brought to this game. In the third quarter, scoring was an even 1-1 with the Ravens not giving an inch on defense.
Finally, in the fourth quarter the Bulldogs began to work in some players off their bench who provided an extra spark on both sides of the ball. The Judge offense notched three more goals in this quarter, while the defense only gave up one. As the clock ran down to zero and the Judge bench went to celebrate with their goalie, the scoreboard read Bulldogs 12, Waterford 3: another great win on the road to their second consecutive championship for Judge.
