The future, and this season, are both looking very bright for Judge Girls Basketball. They’ve been playing against bigger schools than before, winning important games, and learning valuable lessons. We interviewed Makena Gardner, Jazzy Zenner, and Elyah Ocampo about their season so far and their hopes for the future.
When asked how the season has been going so far, Gardner said that the team has lost a few close games but these types of games are always lessons any team can learn from, and girls basketball absolutely has. Ocampo added to this, saying that they’ve been playing against bigger schools and tough competition so far, which means that losing some close games is understandable. They’ve also found some major success against larger schools this year, and Zenner summed this up perfectly when she said “every season has its ups and downs, but we’re doing really good”.
The best aspects of any team go beyond just wins and losses, and this is very true for girls basketball. Gardner said the team dynamic this year is great, adding that “it’s really impressive considering we have four new transfers, but everyone gets along great”. One thing that adds to this atmosphere of friendship and team chemistry is that the team is very young overall, and Zenner explained that this means everyone is “growing together, which makes us even more bonded”.
As for the rest of this year, everyone agreed that the ultimate goal is to win state. After that, the team aims to continue improving. Ocampo said “we’re just going to keep getting better, since we have a lot of talent coming in”. Gardner and Zenner both echoed this message. So, if you want to see one of Judge’s most ambitious and exciting sports teams in action, be sure to go watch girls basketball.
