Judge Memorial Catholic High School students gave back to the community on Christ the King Day Oct. 16, 2024. On this service day students were shuttled to 34 locations where they volunteered by completing activities such as organizing spaces, gardening, preparing and serving food for homeless shelters, and more.
Dr. MacKnight and Mr. Jeffrey’s advisors visited the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall to work with the Good Samaritan by helping out in ways such as making sandwiches, packing lunch bags, and cutting vegetables to prepare for dinner they were serving later that day.
When asked why they thought it was important to do service and teach students the values of volunteering, MacKnight remarks “as Catholics we are called to provide acts of service for those who are less fortunate”, and “Christ the King Day gives students the opportunity to provide service for their communities and to gain an appreciation for service and the benefits it provides.”
While volunteering, junior student Taylor Dunaway also agreed that service is important, saying “it betters our community and gives us an insight”. Christ the King Day showed how students and staff came together to support their community, highlighting the importance of helping those in need.
