Judge’s Future Healthcare Professionals Club is gaining momentum under the leadership of junior Sophia Tomczak and faculty moderator Dr. MacKnight. The club meets every Monday at 7 a.m. in Dr. MacKnight’s room, and the goal is to get students involved in medical techniques and learn about the field.
At club meetings, the members learn many essential medical procedures like testing blood pressure, eyesight, and reflexes.
“It’s a good way to get more comfortable with medicine and learn more for the future,” Sophia said.
As well as building practical skills for the future, the club hopes to compete with other schools about medical knowledge. Dr. MacKnight and Sophia Tomczack are currently working to establish a chapter for HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) here at Judge.
“HOSA is a student organization for students planning to pursue health professions, and they also do these big competitions,” Sophia said. At competitions, you go head-to-head with other students and compete on who can answer the most correct questions about medical procedures and biology.
Students interested in joining the Future Healthcare Professionals Club can easily get involved by emailing Dr. MacKnight or Sophia, or just showing up at Monday morning meetings. Future Healthcare Professionals Club is paving the way for future leaders in the medical field, and they encourage anyone interested in that path to take advantage of this opportunity.
