The Kendrick Castillo Memorial Tournament (KCMT) is held in Denver every year in honor of Kendrick Castillo, a 2019 STEM school Highlands Ranch shooting victim. Castillo died a hero, saving lives when he rushed one of the school shooters. Castillo was a part of robotics Team 4418, IMPULSE out of Littleton, Colorado.
Judgement Call Robotics entered two robots this year, one designed and built by veteran members, named Martina, and the other built only by rookies named Atalanta. Team Captain Henry Krauss had this to say about the tournament “[KCMT] is a great way to give rookies real competition experience without the stakes of a real competition.” Despite not making the playoffs, the rookies gained valuable experience about how to design, build, and compete with a robot. The official robotics season kicks off on January 4th when they get build requirements for the 2025 game, Reefscape.
