Star Wars is one of the most popular Sci-Fi series of movies ever produced, and has given us some of the most memorable characters in cinema. From the menacing Darth Vader to the loving Chewbacca, the variety of characters in the Star Wars universe is vast and full of awesome moments. A heated debate is who the best characters are on both the light and dark sides, so we ranked them.
Light Side Characters
- Yoda
Yoda is one of the most storied Jedi masters in the history of the Jedi Order. With living over 900 years, Yoda is known as the wisest Jedi ever and is able to offer advice to anyone who seeks it. Yoda was one of the strongest users of the Force of all time and used his abilities strictly to rid the galaxy of the Sith. Yoda was able to tap into his powers of the force by meditation, which he used to see possible events in the future, such as the eventual turn of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. Without Yoda, there would be no Jedi Order, and therefore nobody to defend the galaxy against the Sith.
2. Luke
Luke Skywalker, the savior of the galaxy, is known to many as the most powerful Jedi to ever live. Luke had a rough upbringing, living with his uncle and working in the deserts of Tatooine. Going from a farm boy to the savior of the galaxy makes him one of the most relatable characters in all of cinema. His epic battles with his father, Darth Vader, make for some of the best moments in movie history.
3. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is known as the quintessential Jedi, as a model of what every Jedi should strive for. He lived through many different decades of the Jedi order, training Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker throughout his time. Obi-Wan is most known for his mind trick abilities, which he was able to use on enemy Sith and stormtroopers. Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker were best friends during their time as Jedi before their epic battle in The Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan defeats Anakin, turning him into Darth Vader.
4. Han Solo/Chewbacca
This pair of smugglers took the love of Star Wars fans the first time they took the screen in the first movie produced. Their ability to bring comedy and endearment to the movies makes them some of the best characters in the galaxy.
5. Qui-Gon Jinn
Simply put, without Qui-Gon Jinn there would be no Star Wars. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobie were the first Jedi to discover Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine, and bring him to the Jedi temple so he could begin his training. Although he only appeared in The Phantom Menace, he was loved by fans forever after seeing his performance. His legendary battle with Darth Maul is regarded as one of the best in Star Wars, and every fan agrees he died too soon.
Dark Side Characters
- Emperor palpatine
Emperor Palpatine is one of the oldest Sith in star wars and is the main person responsible for manipulating all of the people who turn to the dark side, with the biggest character being Darth Vader, who Palpatine brainwashed into becoming one of the biggest dark side Sith of all time.
2. Darth Vader
Darth Vader was once with the light when his name was Anakin Skywalker, and he only changed his name when he became what most of us know him as today, Darth Vader. I put him at second because the whole reason he even became Darth Vader was because of Emperor Palpatine. But till this day, Darth Vader is still the fan favorite when it comes to the dark side, along with his aura being unmatched.
3. General Grievous
I put him at three because if you ever watched Revenge of the Sith, General Grievous had a strong presence, even in his cough, and looked very intimidating . His Origin story is tough, and he would collect the Jedi’s lightsabers that he killed.

4. Kylo Ren
With Kylo Ren at four, he was Darth Vader’s grandson and was manipulated into joining the dark side by Emperor Palpatine, kind of like how his grandfather was, not exactly but similar. Kylo Ren had a crazy lightsaber that no one else had, along with a mask that made that boy look lowkey like a villain. I just feel like he had a good run, cause that first movie was fire.
5. Darth Maul
With Darth Maul at five, he was lowkey looked like he came from hell, and he was just a villain. Like, he had crazy aura and really didn’t talk to anyone, just let the lightsaber talk. But he’s five because of how fast they killed his character off in the movie. If not for that, he would have been top 3 for sure.
