Planting trees for Service Day
November 2, 2022
This year for Christ the King Service Day a group of sophomores planted trees in Summit County for TreeUtah.
“This is a good day to get us out,” Mr. Sean Strickland said. “You get to get outside the classroom, get to have fresh air, get to have time with friends, but also get to make an impact in the community. So it’s good for us as people, it’s good for the community,” Strickland said. “We’re planting trees to fill in this small area so that for the next 30-100 years we have trees here.”
Seychelle Marcus was the coordinator from TreeUtah for the project.
“The reason we’re planting native vegetation is to bring in more forage materials for wildlife also bring in competition for some of the invasive plants that are in this area, Marcus said. When recommending other places students could do similar service work beside TreeUtah she mentioned Utah Open Lands and Land Trust Alliance.
“Then I would look up to some research projects by Utah State University,” she said. “They have some really cool materials on like native plants and restoration.”
