I interviewed Ms. Kolb who is a new Spanish teacher at Judge this year. She teaches four Spanish 2 classes, along with multiple other Spanish classes at Our Lady of Lourdes Middle School. Ms. Kolb is from a small town south of Spokane, Washington. She went to Saint John Endicott High School where her graduating class was only 28 students. Since Ms. Kolb’s high school was so small she says everyone had to do a little bit of everything. Ms. Kolb herself was in the band, played basketball, and was in academic clubs. Her favorite class was Spanish, and she says “I talked a lot and got in trouble for talking.” After High school she attended Washington State as an undergrad student, and did graduate school at The University of Utah. She even studied abroad in Spain multiple times. Ms. Kolb stated that she has wanted to be a teacher ever since she was little, so she pursued that. While at The University of Utah she got into a program that involved teaching and went from there. Her favorite part of teaching is the people. She loves getting to know people and figuring out how to not only help them as a student, but as a person as well. Outside of school Ms. Kolb enjoys music, traveling, and doing outdoor activities. Mrs. Shepherd helped Ms. Kolb find the job at Judge as she was in touch with professors at the University of Utah who were able to inform Ms. Kolb about a position at Judge. Ms. Kolb is asked what students should know about you as a teacher. She responds “I genuinely care about who they are, what they are going through, yes Spanish is great but I am more interested in students knowing there are people that care about them and want the best for them.”
