On September 5, the Judge Memorial Bulldogs girls soccer team took on their catholic school rival Juan Diego in Mccarthy Stadium. This was an exciting matchup for the bulldogs and would make a perfect game to gain all the momentum they needed on their mission to complete an undefeated regular season.
Senior captain Lorraine Hyngstrom spoke of the win as a “slow start, but strong finish.” She along with Junior captain Makena Gardener attributed this slow start to the overwhelming confidence the team had going into the highly anticipated match up. Makena describes how the team’s winning streak gave them a ton of confidence going into their first region game of the year against a longtime rival in Juan Diego.
This confidence both captains kept referring to was well warranted and showed through the final score of the game being 3-0 for the bulldogs. This was a huge statement win on their season and was hard fought. Lorraine mentions the girls had “ a lot of good scoring opportunities” throughout the game and she was very happy with the team’s ability to capitalize on three of those opportunities.
A young core of the team helped most in capitalizing on these opportunities with the scorers of the game being sophomores Lily Wikstrom, and Emily Christensen as well as freshman Callie Lipson. The game was just the start of these girls’ amazing regular and postseason and was a sweet victory over a catholic rival. Lorraine, the goalkeeper, capped off our conversation by excitedly saying “it was definitely nice to beat them.”
