Music makes up almost every aspect of life in some way, shape, or form. Out of the hundreds of thousands of different artists, at the end of the day, it comes down to who’s considered the best. 2024 was such an incredible year for new artists to emerge, new songs to top charts, and new music to reach around the world. These top 5 upcoming artists have given their fans so much already, have so much more ahead of them, and will have a huge impact on the music world, specifically the pop genre. 

1. Sabrina Carpenter– Sabrina Carpenter first earned a name for herself at just eleven years old when she acted in an episode of Law & Order. Beginning vocal lessons at six years old and then uploading singing videos onto YouTube at ten, Sabrina’s talent for the arts was obvious. In 2014, Girl Meets World premiered, which was a 3 season Disney TV show starring Sabrina Carpenter. She started to shift her focus to her music when she came out with her first album Eyes Wide Open, but didn’t explode until 2022. When Sabrina released her singles Nonsense and Feather from her album Emails I Can’t Send, they quickly rose up the charts and became fan favorites. Carpenter’s awards and nominations have been numerous, and as of this year, her most recent album Short n’ Sweet won Best Pop Vocal Album in the 2025 Grammys, while Espresso also won Best Pop Solo Performance in the 2025 Grammys. Sabrina’s music career recently skyrocketed, and she’ll only continue to top charts and impress the pop world. 

2. Chappell Roan– In her 2025 Grammy interview, Chappell Roan talks about how growing up queer was extremely isolating and difficult, and she spreads her messages through her music. She was signed to a record label at only 17 after she wrote Die Young but was soon dropped by that same label. Chappell Roan had been at her all-time low, but this prompted a complete change. In 2022, she released My Kink is Karma, which hit number 81 on Billboard Hot 100 and then surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. Her latest album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was nominated in six 2025 Grammy categories, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and more. Many of the songs on that album also reached astounding numbers on Billboard Top 100, such as Good Luck Babe peaking at number 4 and Hot To Go peaking at number 15. She rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential and impactful pop artists of this generation.

3. Tyla– Tyla Laura Seethal grew up in the large city of Johannesburg and always had a passion for her African culture. From a young age, she posted videos of herself covering songs and always had musical talent. Ampiano, or traditional African music, was one of Tyla’s favorite genres, and she wanted to figure out how to introduce it to the world. She released her Grammy-winning single Water in 2024, which immediately became a pop favorite because of its catchy beat that incorporated both African and Western influences. Tyla has won two BET Awards, the Best Afrobeats category at the 2024 VMAs, received eight nominations for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, and has been overall very successful in her early music career. Tyla has been a breakthrough artist because she represents her culture in such a magnetic way and has created a greater appreciation for Africa.

4. Benson Boone– Benson Boone discovered his natural talent for singing near the end of high school, and this revelation launched his music career. In 2021, he appeared on American Idol, gaining him immediate attention. Then, in 2023, he released his hit single Beautiful Things, which reached number 3 on the Billboard Top 100. Benson mostly focuses on indie music with pop influences and is recognized for his emotional performances and meaningful songwriting. Although this artist is just starting, he will almost assuredly win awards and grow in popularity in the future.

5. Tate McRae– Coming from a dance and vocal background, Tate McRae has all the elements to possibly become one of the most successful pop artists of 2024. Tate has been a dancer from a very young age and has made this talent a big part of her identity and personality. She released You Broke Me First in 2021, which was her breakthrough song, reaching number 17 on Billboard Hot 100. Tate’s most recent album, Think Later, has been extremely popular and has songs on it that are topping charts. Tate Mcrae is wasting no time in putting out music, most recently her songs 2 Hands, Its OK I’m OK, and Sports Car, and is even planning on releasing a third album called So Close to What. She is already promising her fans new music, which will continue to boost her to greater things in her music career.
