We did our service day at the Carmelite Monastery, which is a place where nine Carmelite nuns live. They are cloistered nuns so they never leave the monastery except in necessary conditions, such as visiting a doctor.

All of the nuns are elderly and aren’t physically able to do the yard work needed to make the place look nice. The monastery has a lot of land so we cleaned up all the branches and leaves that are around.

We had three freshman advisory groups working on various jobs. One group inside the dumpster keeping the trash compacted. Another group raked leaves and put them in wheelbarrows, while the third group cleaned up the path.

The best part of this experience was getting to learn about the Carmeleite nuns and helping them with something they aren’t able to do themselves.
