The Judge Performing Arts department produced Radium Girls the weekend of March 4.

“The play is about these girls who work in a factory painting dials with radium paint,” Ruby Hayden said.  “They had to wet the tip of their brushes in their mouths to get the point just right. They end up poisoning themselves and suing the company.”

Beginning with the main characters, playing Grace Fryer, we have Ruby Hayden, and Sam Hill as Roeder, many say the two gave a beautiful performance. Ruby Hayden is a senior who has been given a lead role in Radium Girls despite only having been acting for two years. She moved to Utah, from Albuquerque, New Mexico last year.

Senior Anthony Walz played the role of Tom, the partner of Grace Fryer. Anthony has been in the spotlight since sixth grade, though, this was his first high school play.

The play was performed as a theater in the round. meaning that the audience surrounded the stage. This meant that both the technical crew and the cast pitched in to help transport props and backdrops while keeping the attention of the viewers.

Oliver Cockle, a sophomore playing the role of the reporter said, “It [the play] was the greatest thing I have ever accomplished, and I love the theater.”

The techies were very important to the play, especially Gus and Xander Klein, the light and sound techies who put a lot of work into the play.

Stage Manger Dominic Fedor said, “The musical and the play are the things that I look forward to the most in the year. Mr. Hathaway always makes a good show”
