Beltex Meats is a high-end butcher shop located on 9th East and is a quick three-minute drive from Judge. It opened in 2014 and has been a community staple, selling out its sandwiches and meats daily. Their website describes themselves as a butcher specializing in locally sourced meats and having strong relationships with local farmers and ranchers. They also offer butchering classes and have recipes available for cuts of meat they sell.
Beltex sells a different sandwich every day Thursday through Sunday. When we visited on a Thursday, the sandwich was their take on a Cubano. House-made pulled pork, pickles, and American cheese were served with bread from Table X, a high-end restaurant in Salt Lake that makes its own bread.
We both agreed that the sandwiches were some of the best we’ve ever had. The taste was an easy 5/5. The price, however, was not. Each sandwich was $15 without sides or a drink. While we both agreed it was worth it, the amount of food for the cost is not sustainable on a high school budget. Thus, we gave the price a 2/5. For the ambiance of Beltex, we concluded that it was a butcher first and a sandwich shop second. There was no indoor seating and the December weather made the outdoor seating unbearable. However, the staff was very friendly and the inside was nice. We gave the ambiance a 3.5/5 and rated Beltex overall 4/5.
