Mr. John Barron’s advisory got outdoors for their service project

For the service day this year, Mr. John Barron’s advisory went to Wasatch Community Gardens. The organization’s mission is to empower people to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food.

Barron’s advisory helped clean up the garden by pulling weeds and clearing out different sections. Some of the local gardeners also came and helped out while checking on their garden.

We had an interview with Zach Gordon about the trip and he talked about how it was nice meeting with the gardeners and restoring the garden. He also talked about learning about gardening and the different fruits and vegetables that were being grown. Most of the people there know a lot about what goes into gardening and the different techniques and vegetables/fruits that are used. Lastly, he mentioned how it was nice to talk and hang out with different people and his friends as they gardened since gardening is such a relaxing activity.

The group has been around since 1989, and in that time they’ve provided access to land and education for growing and eating fresh produce, while building and nurturing community connections through gardening and healthy food. The group has four main programs: Community Garden, Community Education, Youth and School Garden, and Job Training Programs.

The workers at Wasatch Community Gardens say that they envision a community where everyone values and has access to growing and eating healthy and delicious food.
