American teens are surrounded by the impacts of gun violence, especially in schools all across the country.
When asked about her concerns with American gun violence junior, Quynh Nguyen said, “It’s honestly really upsetting to hear about school shootings, just because it’s targeting such a specific population of people who literally have done nothing wrong, and people who are just taking their hatred out on, high school or even elementary school students. Students are constantly subjected to horrific news of kids their age tragically losing their lives to gun violence.”
One of our very own Nuer Deng, tragically lost his life last summer, the summer before his senior year was about to begin.
“Last year, my family was affected by gun violence, because my cousin, Nuer Deng was shot and killed in the summer,” junior Aluel Deng said. “It really harshly impacted us, and we’re still living with the effects.”
We as a community have become so unaware and unfazed by the gruesome action committed in American high schools.
“I think we should make there be more security measures in order to get a gun. I do understand that people have different reasons for having guns, but as of right now, people are just abusing that resource and that power.” Quynh added.
High school students don’t have the ability to fix the systemic issues that surround gun violence, but we can still make our voices heard.
